Quick Quiz
A trivia game for the whole room. One screen shows the questions, everyone answers on their own phone, and Couch Club keeps a fair score.
Start a room
You get a room code and a QR code to show the room. Pick the questions and the time per question, then start when everyone is in.
Join a room
Type the six-character code from the host’s screen.
Showing the room on a TV or laptop? Open the TV screen.
How it works
Ten questions per game, about ten minutes with the default 30 seconds per question.
1. Gather
The host starts a room and shows the code on the TV. Players join on their phones with a name. In team mode, one phone answers for each team.
2. Answer
Each question has four answers. Tap one on your phone before the time runs out; your first tap is final.
3. Reveal
When everyone has answered, the right answer appears with a short explanation and the scores. After ten questions, a winner, or an honest tie.
The rules
- Players: 2–12 phones, each for one or more people, or 2–6 teams with one phone each. The line-up locks when a game starts; latecomers join the next one.
- Scoring: one point per right answer, no speed bonus, no minus points. A blank or late answer scores zero.
- Time: 30 seconds per question by default; the host can choose 15 to 60 before the game starts. The server’s clock decides what counts as late.
- Mistakes: if a question turns out to be ambiguous, the host can void it for everyone. Nobody scores it, every total is recalculated and the correction stays visible. A reserve question takes its place.
- Ties: a tie for first stays a tie unless every tied player or team agrees to one tiebreak question.
- Interruptions: if our server restarts during a question, that question is cancelled for everyone and replaced. If more than ten questions are lost in one game, it ends as incomplete, with no winner.
- Changes: removing a player during a game ends that game as incomplete, so nobody’s chances change halfway through a question.
The questions
240 original questions written for Couch Club: 60 on everyday science, 60 on geography, 60 on history, 60 on arts and culture. Every answer was checked against two independent sources, and every question has a short explanation that appears at the reveal. They are kept on our server and sent to phones one at a time, so the answers are not in the page.
- Sofa Starter: A gentle warm-up with well-known facts from all four categories. A good first game.
- Kitchen Table: A friendly mix of science, places, history and culture, with a couple of curveballs.
- Rainy Sunday: Museums, maps and milestones: a steady mix for a long afternoon.
- Long Weekend: A little harder: capitals, composers and famous firsts.
- Big Night In: A tougher mix for groups who like a challenge.
- Late Show: The trickiest edition, for groups who know their stuff.
- Practice: the other 120 questions, mixed or by category.
Within a room, questions already played are not repeated in the next game while the set allows it.
Privacy
Players type a display name, nothing else. Names, answers and scores are kept on our server only while the room is open and deleted when it closes; we keep only anonymous counts such as how many games were played. No chat, no photos, no microphone or camera. More in the privacy notes.
Questions
What do we need to play?
One screen everyone can see (a TV, laptop or tablet) and a phone per player or team. Open couchclub.idistic.com/join on each phone and type the room code. Playing over a video call? Each player opens the join link on their own phone or computer; the questions appear there too, so screen sharing is optional.
Is it free? Do players need an account?
Yes, it is free, with no accounts, no app and no adverts. Players only type a name, which is deleted when the room closes.
How does scoring work?
Every right answer is one point. There are no points for speed and no minus points. The answer is revealed when everyone has answered or the time is up.
What happens in a tie?
A tie for first stays a tie, unless every tied player or team agrees to one extra tiebreak question. If exactly one of them gets it right, they win; otherwise the tie stands.
What if someone’s phone dies or the page reloads?
Open the same page again on the same phone: you get your seat back with your score and any answer you already gave. A player who is away keeps their seat; an unanswered question simply scores zero. If you open the seat in another tab, the newest tab takes over.
What if the host disconnects?
The game waits at the next fair point. The host can reopen their page, use the recovery code shown when the room was created, or let a co-host take over after a minute.
Are the questions checked?
Yes. There are 240 original questions, 60 on everyday science, 60 on geography, 60 on history, 60 on arts and culture. Each answer was checked against two independent sources and comes with a short explanation at the reveal.
How long do rooms last?
A room closes after 30 minutes without any play, and after four hours at most. When it closes, names and answers are deleted.
